About this course

Our Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended) is a four-year degree for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to undertake studies in an academically and culturally supported environment.

Who is it for?

This course is for prospective students seeking a future career in the arts or a stepping stone to other specialised degrees at the University.

All successful applicants to this degree will be eligible for a $20,000 scholarship.

Structure

What you’ll study

Students in the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended) will complete units totaling 168 credit points which includes:

  • four Foundation Subjects (6 credit points each)
  • subjects that contribute towards a major (total 48 credit points)
  • Arts or Science subjects that could contribute towards a sequence (36 credit points)
  • Online Learning Environment (OLE) units (a total, and maximum of, 6 credit points)
  • an Interdisciplinary Indigenous Cultural Capstone Project unit (6 credit points) 
  • Liberal studies electives
  • other electives.

OLE units are a combination of three, 2-credit points of discipline and non-discipline specific units. These units will incorporate experiential mathematics learning at a range of engaging sites, with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander academic coordinator and guest lecturers, with real life, community-based scenarios.

Qualifications

This course is an alternative entry program.

  1. This course is only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, who meet the process outlined in the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015.
  2. Admission to this course will be on demonstrated potential for tertiary study to a standard sufficient to undertake the course as demonstrated in:
    • a numeracy and literacy diagnostic assessment;
    • a structured interview;
    • evidence of a secondary school leaving qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents) or Record of Student Achievement (RoSA), tertiary study or an approved preparation program; 
    • a portfolio of written work or support material including a personal statement of intent for studying the course.
