About this course
Our Bachelor of Science (Extended) is a four-year degree for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to undertake studies in an academically and culturally supported environment.
All successful applicants to this degree will be eligible for a $20,000 scholarship.
Who is it for?
This course is for prospective students seeking a future science career or a stepping stone to other specialised degrees at the University.
Structure
What you’ll study
Students will complete a total of 168 credit points in this course.
This includes:
- four Foundation Subjects (24 credit points),
- two degree core subjects (that contributes 12 credit points),
- subjects that contribute towards an Science major or stream (total 48 credit points),
- subjects that contribute towards a minor or second major (36 or 48 credit points, respectively),
- Online Learning Environment (OLE) units (a total, and maximum of, 6 credit points),
- an Interdisciplinary Indigenous Cultural Capstone Project unit (6 credit points) and
- other electives.
OLE units are a combination of three, 2-credit points of discipline and non-discipline specific units. These units will incorporate experiential mathematics learning at a range of engaging sites, with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander academic coordinator and guest lecturers, with real life, community-based scenarios.

This course is an alternative entry program.
- This course is only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, who meet the process outlined in the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015.
- Admission to this course will be on demonstrated potential for tertiary study to a standard sufficient to undertake the course as demonstrated in:
- a numeracy and literacy diagnostic assessment;
- a structured interview;
- evidence of a secondary school leaving qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents) or Record of Student Achievement (RoSA), tertiary study or an approved preparation program;
- a portfolio of written work or support material including a personal statement of intent for studying the course.
A minimum result of 6.5 overall and a minimum result of 6.0 in each band
A minimum result of 85 overall including a minimum result of 17 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 19 in Writing
A minimum result of 61 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
