About this course

Our double degree gives you the opportunity to study science before undertaking dentistry. With a deeper understanding of the scientific fundamentals that underpin dentistry, you will graduate prepared for a rewarding career.

Who is it for?

Designed for high school graduates who have achieved outstanding results, you will study a three-year undergraduate science degree, followed by our four-year Doctor of Dental Medicine.

What you’ll study

The Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Medicine is a vertically-integrated combined degree comprising an undergraduate coursework degree that provides a deeper understanding of the scientific fundamentals that underpin dentistry, followed by an accredited postgraduate masters-level course in dental medicine.

Under the Bachelor of Science you will complete core units including fundamental dentistry units in preparation for the postgraduate course. You will complete a major from the Science disciplinary pool, and a minor or second major from the disciplinary or shared pools. You will also complete Dentistry elective and elective units as needed from the disciplinary or shared pools.

After successful completion of the undergraduate requirements you will progress to the Doctor of Dental Medicine, wherein you will complete a prescribed set of units in oral biosciences, clinical dentistry and research. You will also complete elective units in your discipline area and complete clinical and practical placements.

Qualifications

Admission to this course is on the basis of the following criteria:

  • A secondary education qualification such as the NSW Higher School Certificate (including national and international equivalents).  As a guide, for 2025 entry a minimum ATAR of 99.7 or equivalent will be required to be considered for domestic applicants*. 
  • An assessment process including a written assessment followed by a panel discussion. Eligible domestic applicants will be required to attend the assessment in-person at the University; eligible international applicants will be required to attend the assessment online. 

Eligibility

  • You are only eligible for admission to the first available course intake following receipt of your final results. If your results are not available in time to be considered for the 2025 intake (ie prior to the issue of invitations to the January 2025 assessment), you may be eligible to apply for the 2026 intake.
  • Assessment dates and assessment modes (ie in-person or online) are not negotiable and eligible candidates must attend the first assessment day after the release of their ATAR (or other secondary education qualification) results.  
  • You must meet the ATAR (or equivalent) to be invited to attend the assessment day.
